The York University international Pre-university Summer School is open to all students aged 16-18 in secondary or further education, who are planning to enter higher education and are ready to get a taste of what it means to study at a top university in the UK. This two-week summer school is a combination of serious academic study and fun-packed social activities – all in an international community, based on York University's parkland campus, delivered by the University’s academic departments.
UNIVERSITY PLACEMENT
If you successfully complete the programme, York University guarantees that you will be invited to interview or receive a typical offer for a place to study on an undergraduate programme at the University of York.
This offer is only available to international students (including EU). To be eligible you will need to:
have successfully completed the Pre-university Summer School programme of York Global Summer Schools and
have the potential to meet the typical entry requirements (both academic and English language) for your chosen programme and
complete an online application via UCAS (the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) by the January equal consideration deadline within two years of completing York Global Summer Schools.
DATES
The Pre-university Summer School takes place from 5 July to 2 August 2023 in two two-week sessions. You can book one or both sessions. In each session, you'll choose one of two academic options.
Session 1: 5-19 July 2023
Arrival day: Wednesday 5 July 2023
Departure day: Wednesday 19 July 2023
Academic option 1: Environment and Geography Academic option 2: Psychology
Academic option 3: Physics, Engineering and Technology
Session 2: 19 July-2 August 2023 Arrival day: Wednesday 19 July 2023 Departure day: Wednesday 2 August 2023

What the scholarship covers
The York Global Widening Participation Scholarship covers the following:
programme fee (£3,497)
travel costs (according to the University’s travel and expenses policy)
passport and visa costs (up to £300)
£100 spending money
Eligibility
Three full scholarships are available for secondary/high school students from Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa and Ukraine.
You qualify to apply for this scholarship if:
you are currently in secondary education
you hold a citizenship from any country in Latin America or Sub-Saharan Africa or from Ukraine
you meet our minimum recommended level of English language skills, ie CEFR B2, IELTS 5, TOEFL 44+ or Duolingo 75+ (no need for a language exam)
you can prove your academic motivation
your family’s financial situation would not enable you to participate in the programme without this scholarship
this would be your first study abroad experience.
You are more likely to get the scholarship if:
neither of your parents attended university (or they went to university as a mature student during your secondary education)
you are estranged from your family
you are from a military family (while you have been in education, your parent(s) have served in the military)
you have a disability or long term health condition*
you identify as LGBTQI+
you belong to an ethnic minority group in your country.
*Due to the study abroad nature of the programme, you must be able to travel independently.
How to apply
In order to be considered for a scholarship, you must submit an online application. If your application is shortlisted, you will be invited to a short online interview to further discuss your application. Interviews will take place between 27 February and 3 March 2023.
