The Government of Mauritius invites applications from deserving students who are resident citizens of member states of the African Union or African Commonwealth countries for the Mauritius Africa Scholarship Scheme, for studies in Undergraduate Diploma Three (3) years, and Undergraduate Degree Four (4) years. The duly completed application form should be submitted through the Nominating Agency of the respective countries. In Eswatini, this is the Ministry of Labour and Social Security.
Please note: info on postgraduate opportunities in this same scheme will be published next week.
SCHOLARSHIP BENEFITS
The Scholarship will support successful candidates in meeting their tuition fees and contributing to their living expenses during their studies in Mauritius. This scholarship provides for an annual payment of fees and other studies-related costs (e.g. general/annual fees/miscellaneous fees and laboratory consumables etc).
Furthermore, the scholarship covers return airfare by the most economical route. This will be valid for travel from the country of origin at the beginning of the studies and back to the country of origin upon successful completion of studies.
A monthly living allowance of MUR 16,500 will be paid to awardees as part support to meet their living expenses. Students are expected to supplement this amount to cover the cost of living in Mauritius. This allowance will be credited to the awardee’s bank account in Mauritius monthly, subject to the submission of evidence of attendance in the study programme by the HEI.
Beneficiaries are entitled to free health care in public hospitals in Mauritius. The awardees will have to make arrangements for health and travel insurances.
Awardees must make their own arrangements to pay for their one-way air tickets and then apply for a refund upon arrival in Mauritius by providing the necessary original receipts and documentation issued in their name. Those awardees travelling from countries that require a return ticket as a condition of their exit immigration at the point of departure will have to purchase the same at their own cost. The cost equivalent to a one-way ticket along with any cancellation charges for this return ticket will be refunded to the awardee by the authorities in Mauritius.
Awardees will have to make prior arrangements with the HEI in Mauritius regarding accommodation.
Please note the following which are not covered by this scholarship:
The student will have to bear all fees and other studies-related costs associated with any examination re-sit or repeat of any academic year.
No request for an extension of scholarship will be entertained beyond the minimum course duration. The applicant will have to bear the cost of any expenses incurred beyond the minimum course duration.
Awardees are expected to have funds to purchase an ait ticket to come to Mauritius along with sufficient funds (at least USD 1000) to meet expenses during the initial phase of their stay (about three (3) months) while formalities are being completed locally
This scholarship may be suspended or terminated at any time for breach of the local laws or unsatisfactory conduct, poor academic progress, failure in more than 50% of your modules in any semester, or an overall attendance lower than 70%.
