CHEVENING SCHOLARSHIP 2021

Updated: Nov 1, 2021

DEADLINE: 2 NOVEMBER 2021 at 2pm

The 2021/2022 application cycle for Chevening will open on 2 August 2021.

Chevening Scholarships enable outstanding emerging leaders from all over the world to pursue one-year master’s degrees in the UK. Whilst there is no ‘typical’ Chevening Scholar, they are looking for the kind of people who have the passion, ideas, and influence to provide the solutions and leadership needed to create a better future. Chevening awards on average 7 - 9 scholarships each year from Eswatini, and has a rich alumni body including the current CEO of Standard Bank Eswatini.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Be a citizen of Eswatini or a Chevening-eligible country or territory.

  • Return to your country of citizenship for a minimum of two years after your award has ended.

  • Have completed all components of an undergraduate degree that will enable you to gain entry onto a postgraduate programme at a UK university by the time you submit your application. This is typically equivalent to an upper second-class 2:1 degree

  • Have at least two years (equivalent to 2,800 hours) of work experience. The types of work experience that are eligible for Chevening can include: Full-time employment, Part-time employment, Voluntary work, Paid or unpaid internships

  • Apply to three different eligible UK university courses and have received an unconditional offer from one of these choices by 15 July 2022

Please note: the Chevening English language requirement has been removed for applicants applying to study from 2020/2021 onwards. Candidates will still need to meet all requirements from their chosen university and secure an unconditional offer from one of their three course choices by the Chevening deadline.

HOW TO APPLY

All Chevening applications must be submitted through the online application system (OAS) found on the Chevening website. This system will be used throughout the application and selection process, and you may be asked to log back in at various points during the process to receive updates on your application status, or to submit documents.

Please ensure you have access to a laptop or computer and strong internet connection in order to adequately research and complete all sections. The application form may take some time to complete, so consider preparing your answers offline and then pasting them into the online form later. The application does not have to be completed in one sitting, as you log in and out using a username and password created at the beginning of the process.

Be careful to read, understand and strictly follow all instructions to make sure no part of your application is penalised. Make absolutely sure that no part of your application is plagiarised.

COMPETITION

Chevening Scholarships are very competitive. In order to give yourself the best chance of being shortlisted for an interview and eventually being offered a scholarship, it is vital that you prepare at every stage of the process. Before submitting your application, it is recommended that you read the guidance offered here: https://www.chevening.org/scholarships/guidance/. Repeat applicants are welcome to apply, and we highly recommend attending the Chevening event to get more info on the application, how to strengthen your competitiveness and how to avoid common mistakes.

ELIGIBLE COURSES / UNIVERSITIES

Course selection is key to submitting a coherent application, thus it is important to spend time researching the available courses, and choosing one which makes the most sense based on your academic background, experience and career plans after the masters program. You will not be able to change your course choices after submitting your application unless you are granted permission to do so at the interview stage.

Please be aware that the scholarship application and university application are two separate applications. You will need to apply separately to your selected courses directly via the university of your choice. Please apply as soon as possible to ensure you get a place. To be awarded a scholarship, you must get an unconditional offer for one of your course choices by 15 July 2021.

It is recommended to select three similar courses at three different universities to increase the likelihood that you will gain entry into one of them. Please note that the course titles do not have to match exactly, but all three courses should be similar in content. You should select courses that reflect your current or future career goals. Search for and select your courses here: https://www.chevening.org/scholarships/guidance/courses/
