2024 QATAR UNIVERSITY UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS

Qatar University is a public research university located on the northern outskirts of Doha, Qatar. It is the only public university in the country. The university hosts ten colleges – Arts and Sciences, Business and Economics, Education, Engineering, Law, Sharia and Islamic Studies, Pharmacy, College of Health Science, College of Medicine, College of Dental Medicine, and College of Pharmacy.


Courses are taught in Arabic and English. Students entering the university are sometimes placed in a “Foundation Program”, which ensures the acquirement of skills such as Math and English.


The university serves on behalf of the government and private industry to conduct regional research, particularly in areas of the environment and energy technologies. Qatar University has a student body of fifty-two nationalities, 65% of which are Qatari nationals. About 35% are children of expats.


Women make up approximately 70% of the student population, and are provided their own set of facilities and classrooms.[6] QU has an alumni body of over 30,000 graduates, and an active student body of over 20,000 students.



ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

All applicants who are applying for the first time to Qatar University, or who have not earned at least 24 credit hours at a university and who are applying to Qatar University as either Foundation Program or Undergraduate applicants are classified as First Year applicants. First Year applicants may apply for either Fall or Spring admission. First Year admits are not eligible to receive transfer credit consideration for coursework completed prior to their semester of admission to QU.


All applicants to Qatar University must complete a minimum of 12 years of formal education and their transcript results must be certified by the appropriate educational agency. The high school grade requirements mentioned in this section are minimum scores, they do not guarantee admission, and they may change according to the strength of the applicant pool and the available capacity in each college or major. Additionally, high school requirements do vary by college and individual colleges reserve the right to stipulate additional requirements to the admission requirements listed below.


British Secondary School System:

  • Earned at least five IGCSE (O Level) subjects with a minimum grade of "D or 3" and a minimum of two subjects at the Advanced (A) or (AS) level or a combination of (A) and (AS) level subjects with a minimum grade of "D".

  • As the official results for this school system will be released after QU has announced admission decisions, applicants may submit predicted grades in addition to official result certificates by the submission deadline. Applicants who submit predicted high school grades (pdf) will be considered for Provisional Admission.

  • For the Scientific Track certification, 2 Science subjects (Biology, Physics, Chemistry) and 1 Mathematics subject with minimum grade of "C or 4" are required.


International Baccalaureate (IB):

  • Completion of the full IB Diploma with at least 2 subjects at the HL and the other 4 subjects at SL level.

  • The student should have attained a total grade point score of 24 out 42, excluding grades for Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and Extended Essay.

  • As the official results for this school system will be released after QU has announced admission decisions, applicants may submit predicted grades by the submission deadline. Applicants who submit predicted high school grades (pdf) will be considered for Provisional Admission.

  • For Science Track certification, 2 Science courses (Biology, Physics, Chemistry) and one Mathematics course with minimum grade of 4 (2 of these 3 subjects must be at the HL) and a minimum grade of 3 in the other three subjects.


AVAILABLE SCHOLARSHIPS

There are two scholarships you can apply for: International Student Scholarship, and Talent Scholarship for students who excel in art, science, innovation or sports / athleticism.


 

  1. International Student Scholarship

The International Students Scholarship at Qatar University is awarded to students of outstanding academic performance. The benefits of this scholarship are:


  • Exemption from tuition fees

  • Exemption from textbook fees

  • 500 QR monthly salary

  • Student housing (two students per room) including transportation to/from campus.

  • Annual round trip air fare ticket

  • Residence permit under QU sponsorship

ELIGIBILITY

  1. The applicant must have a high school certificate or its equivalent.

  2. A minimum high school average of 95%.

  3. Applicant must receive the final acceptance in the university.

  4. The applicant must meet the admission requirements for the college that they applied to.

  5. The scholarship should be utilized starting from the semester in which the scholarship was awarded. The start of the study can be postponed for one semester, if necessary, conditional of approval of the scholarship committee. If the student does not pass his/her first semester, the scholarship will be canceled and the student will be informed by QU email.

  6. Applicant must have a good reputation.

  7. Applicant should not get benefit from this scholarship and another sponsorship/scholarship simultaneously.

Conditions for Continuity of Scholarship:

  1. The student must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0.

  2. The student must successfully complete a minimum of 12 hours per semester.

  3. The student must remain registered continuously (in Fall and Spring) until graduation.

  4. The student should not exceed the period for graduation according to his/her study plan.

  5. Recipients of the scholarship are expected to adhere to academic regulations, policies, and procedures of Qatar University.

  6. Must abide to the General Conditions to keep the scholarship.

Upon receiving the applications, the scholarship committee may consider the applicant’s standard test scores in English (IELTS or TOEFL) and in Mathematics (SAT, ACT, QU Math Placer) or other test scores selected by the committee.


APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

Required Documents

Applicants for this scholarship are not required to submit any documents except the documents required for admission.

How to Apply

International students applicants may apply to this scholarship through the online admission application in the “Scholarship Application” section during the announced application period.

International students must submit the original high school transcript and required documents during the application period for international students to Qatar University to the following address:

Application and evaluation procedures:

  1. Students apply for admission and scholarships online using the online admission application during the announced application period.

  2. The applicants will be evaluated after the deadline of the online scholarship application. An initial conditional acceptance letter will be sent to the nominated students.

  3. After receiving admission decision in the university, the university will apply for visas and the students will be notified accordingly.

  4. The final admission and scholarship decisions will be sent to the students by email according to the announced timeline.


 

2. Talent Scholarship


Qatar University offers this scholarship to undergraduate non-Qatari students (including international students) who are talented in the fields of scientific research, technology and innovation, literature and art, media, and athleticism. Applicants for this scholarship are selected on a competitive basis. The benefits are:

  • Exemption from tuition fees

  • Exemption from textbook fees

  • Monthly salary of 1,000 QR

  • Guarantee to be admitted to the desired program of study upon meeting the minimum program admission requirements (except for medicine and dental medicine)

  • For international talented students: Student housing (two students per room) including transportation to/from campus, annual round trip air fare ticket and residence permit under QU sponsorship

Requirements for application:

  1. The applicant must have a high school certificate or its equivalent.

  2. A minimum high school average of 80%.

  3. Applicant must meet the minimum admissions requirements of the program that he/she wishes to join.

  4. Applicant must submit the final transcript of the 11th grade with a minimum average of 80%.

  5. Applicant must submit the final transcript of the first semester of the 12th grade with a minimum average of 80%.

  6. Applicant must provide a minimum of two letters of recommendation to support the application from prestigious entities relevant to the area of talent.

  7. Applicant must submit a portfolio letter presenting his/her talent and proving the recent achievements in the field of talent, specifically in one of the following areas: scientific research (includes all literary and scientific fields), technology and innovation, literature, art (includes painting, sculpture, calligraphy and similar arts), media, and athleticism.

  8. Applicant should pass the personal interview with the committee.

  9. Applicant cannot benefit from this scholarship and another scholarship simultaneously, except for international students (terms and conditions apply).

  10. Applicants who have previously granted the full benefits of this scholarship are not eligible to benefit from it again for the purpose of acquiring a new academic degree.

  11. The scholarship should be utilized starting from the semester in which the scholarship was awarded. For international students, the start of the study can be postponed for one semester, if necessary, conditional of approval of the scholarship committee. If the student does not pass his/her first semester, the scholarship will be canceled and the student will be informed by QU email.



Conditions for Continuity of Scholarship:

  1. The student must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5/4.0.

  2. The student must successfully complete a minimum of 12 hours per semester.

  3. The student must regularly represent the university in the area of talent locally and internationally.

  4. The student should not exceed the period for graduation according to his/her program.

  5. The student must remain registered continuously (in Fall and Spring) until graduation.

  6. The student must commit to the continuous practice and development of the talent.

  7. Recipients of scholarship are expected to adhere to academic regulations, policies, and procedures of Qatar University.

  8. Must abide to the General Conditions to keep the scholarship.

Required Documents:

  1. Applicant must provide a minimum of two letters of recommendation to support the application from prestigious entities relevant to the area of talent.

  2. Applicant must submit a portfolio letter with a link to a video of large-size file supporting files (e.g. on Dropbox or OneDrive) presenting his/her talent and proving the recent achievements in the field of talent, specifically in one of the following areas: scientific research (includes all literary and scientific fields), technology and innovation, literature, art (includes painting, sculpture, calligraphy and similar arts), media, and athleticism.For athletic talent, the video must show the applicant playing within a team during a match.

  3. After passing the personal interview successfully, Applicants for the field of sport talent are required to submit signed history and medical information form along with the physical examination form filled by a health care provider (family doctor or general practitioner) and to pass a physical fitness examination at Qatar University.

How to Apply

The applicant may apply to the talent scholarship through the online admission application on “Scholarship Application” page during the announced application period. The applicant is requested to upload the required and supporting documents presenting his/her talent and achievements.

Application and evaluation procedures:

  1. Students apply for admission and for scholarship online using the online admission application during the announced application period.

  2. Students enrolled in schools outside Qatar or in private schools inside Qatar (non-governmental Qatari school system) must upload the first semester certificate of grade twelve and the final certificate of grade eleven. If the student completed grade twelve, he/she must submit only the final certificate of grade twelve.

  3. Applicant must upload a minimum of two recommendation letters through the online admission application from recognized entities relevant to the area of talent to support the application.

  4. Applicant must submit a letter summarizing his/her talent, achievements, and awards received with a link to large-size files including videos and any other supporting documents (e.g. on Dropbox or OneDrive) to highlight his/her talent and to show the recent achievements in one field of the following talents: scientific research (includes all art and scientific fields), technology, innovation, literature, art (includes painting, sculpture, calligraphy, and similar arts), media, and sports.

  5. The applicants' files will be evaluated and interviews will be conducted to assess the eligibility and qualifications of the applicant. The best applicants for each talent field will be short listed.

  6. An initial conditional acceptance letter will be sent to the nominated students, within six weeks after the deadline of the online scholarship application, stating the conditions that must be met and the documents required to receive the final acceptance.

  7. For international students, after they send the required documents, the university will apply for their visas and they will be notified accordingly.

  8. The final admission and scholarship decisions will be sent to students by email according to the announced timeline.
